Dealing with this: Boy, shoveling that 4 1/2 foot blizzard snow drift has turned my arms into rubber. Luckily, I have another untouched snow drift on the side of the house to work on tomorrow. Sigh…

18+ inches. 24 inches. Now I just saw 34 inches (please let that one be wrong!) Chitown is going to get socked by a blizzard that actually might top the infamous one of 1967. I am not looking forward to this shovelthon that will not end until it’s 10 degrees on Thursday. I’m plotting strategy [...]

Last week I got to play Chicago tourist for the fourth of my friend’s five kids. Each child gets to have a “mom and me” trip to Chicago when they are around 10 to see mom’s old haunts (and mine, since we grew up together.) Then we all do some Chicago stuff. The first kid [...]

I’m sure they don’t want to be in it, but circumstances have put them in the club. Before, the thought of an inch or two of snow scared many of them. After seeing around 30 in one storm, plus 30 more before that, they can handle anything. They are learning the snow survivor skills that [...]

A “proper” Yule Log If they tried to light the Yule Log right now, there wouldn’t be one. Everything is loaded to the gills with ice. I put a ton of salt on all surfaces last night and there is now a thick sheet of ice covering it all up. I just put more on [...]

This time, the east coast is getting nailed with snow. Last time, it was Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan. Even the UK is getting a lot of snow again like last winter. I see all these reports and sigh in relief that all we’ve been getting is a few inches of snow on the system [...]
